Radio Practice

This course was Lectured by João Cordeiro from 26th November, 2012 to 10th January, 2013.

SYLLABUS

Radio Practice is a course dedicated to explore the techniques implied on radio broadcasting, ranging from the conceptualization of a radio show (where the content and form should be adequate to the target audience and medium of diffusion) to the audio mastering of the final product (a primarily technical skill). To better understand the radio broadcast phenomenon, an introduction to radio broadcasting history will be lectured along with an overview of the major technological achievements in the field. The course will be mainly practical with an emphasis on hands-on activities. Sparse theoretical concepts will be presented, whenever possible, with the aid of audiovisual supports.
The three stages of a radio production - pre-production, production and post-production - will be presented as the paradigm for any project.

Assignments

Students were asked to accomplish four different assignments - one individually and three in group - along the fourteen sessions. The briefings and outcomes are presented on the next pages of this website.

The course was designed with the intention to provide students with different and complementary radio practices rather than striving for expertise on one solo task. All the results presented here are the outcomes of their first incursions.
